SEO or Search Engine Optimisation is a term used to describe the action of creating or editing a web sites page to be:

This is usually done by the web designer at the construction stage or by a professional team or company after the web site is completed.  Optimising a page involves assessing the pages information and matching the pages content to its keywords and page title.  Once completed the pages are then re-submitted to all of the major search engines to be ranked again. Although this sounds simple enough the actual practice of optimising a web site can be both time consuming and difficult to grasp.  It is both an art and science.

"Will my site be number one on Google?"

The most common question we get asked is how to get to the top spot on Google.  There is NO guarantees of ever getting your web site to the top spot of Google or any other search engine for that matter.  A vast majority of search engines use advanced algorithms to assess your web site and display only the relevant or closest matching site to the information, phrase or search term entered by the user.  Whilst there are many companies that make claims of their ability to get you to the top spot using secret techniques, the truth is that you will often be paying monthly for a service that you really don't require and will see little or no difference over a 12 month period.

Instead its better to start out correctly from the beginning.

Think if you were a new customer;

• What would you type in to find your site?
• What keywords or common phrases can be used to describe you or your product?
• Does your web sites page content (text) contain these keywords and phrases?

We always tell our clients that the first 5 pages of Google will be the most important for their web site.  A large majority of web users will not continue to look after page 5 as their attention span deteriorates.  Any web site listed on the first 3 pages of Google stands the greatest chance of receiving a hit or visit from a potential customer.
